smiling pregnant woman looking down at stomachPregnancy brings ongoing changes to your posture, centre of gravity, and the way your spine and pelvis move. As your body adapts to carrying your growing baby, everyday activities may begin to feel different, and you may notice new aches, stiffness, or changes in mobility. At Stott Chiropractic, our evidence-informed approach is adapted to each stage of pregnancy, with hands-on care and appropriate exercises selected around your comfort and individual needs.

NEW PATIENTS

Care That Adapts as Your Body Changes

Your first visit begins with a conversation about how your pregnancy is progressing, any discomfort or movement concerns you have, and what you hope to achieve. We will explain the techniques that may be suitable and show you how our equipment can be adjusted as your body changes. Our Hi-Lo drop table can be adjusted to accommodate your growing abdomen, allowing most patients to lie face down comfortably throughout pregnancy.

During pregnancy, changes in posture, weight distribution, and ligament laxity can influence how the spine, pelvis, and surrounding muscles function. We assess how these areas are moving and use gentle techniques where clinically appropriate. Your appointment may include:

  • Gentle chiropractic adjustments
  • Soft tissue therapy
  • Pregnancy-appropriate drop-table techniques
  • Cold laser therapy where clinically appropriate

Before, During and After Pregnancy

Some women choose to begin chiropractic care before becoming pregnant. This provides an opportunity to assess spinal and pelvic mobility and discuss exercises that may assist with strength and movement before the physical demands of pregnancy increase.

During pregnancy, chiropractic care may help maintain mobility and manage musculoskeletal discomfort as your posture and centre of gravity change. Simple mobility, core, or glute-strengthening exercises may also be recommended according to your stage of pregnancy and individual circumstances.

After birth, chiropractic care may be considered as your body continues to adapt. Feeding, lifting, carrying, and interrupted sleep can all place new physical demands on the spine, pelvis, and surrounding muscles. Recommendations can be adjusted according to how you are recovering and the activities involved in caring for your baby.

Individualised Care at Every Stage

Every pregnancy is different, so recommendations are based on your health history, current presentation, stage of pregnancy, and personal goals. Techniques are adapted from visit to visit, depending on how you are feeling and what is appropriate at that time.
